Dear Dr. Maya,

I get very nervous and almost child like when it comes to going to a dentist and I have in my lifetime had some not so pleasant dental experiences.

I felt welcome and safe from the moment I walked into the door. The receptionist, or front desk manager (not sure of title) was very friendly and helpful. I arrived a few minutes before appt time to turn in medical records papers I had picked up the day before. I have never felt so at ease at dental office with out some form of sedative or “goofy gas.” Dr. Ana Maya Adkins was very thorough and explained each and every step as she progressed in her exam, this is what I need and she anticipated that. I give 2 thumbs up to the entire staff and my entire experience.

Hey doc I am flossing not once but TWICE a day and brushing 3 times not 1! ….. 1 am impressed with myself as well haha. A dentist will tell you to floss, you know you should be because food and substance get in there. However you took the time to explain the rationale, not just “do it because I say but this” is why you should.

Again, Thank you for such a wonderful dental visit. looking forWard to “‘prettier teeth”‘. Thanks again for my little surprises 😉

YOUR DENTAL TEAM

Dr. Maya Adkins is a native of Colombia, South America, where she graduated from the Universidad Autonoma de Manizales. She moved to Florida and there served as president of the Peoples Resource Organization, mentoring at-risk youth. She earned her advanced standing degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2000.
In 2001, Dr. Maya Adkins began her practice with Drs. Bennett, Butler & Associates in Williamsburg, Va. She opened Maidstone Dental in April 2009.
Dr. Maya Adkins is an active member of the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, and Academy of General Dentistry.
She lives with her husband, Steve, and two daughters in Quinton, Va. She loves to travel, cook and exercise.

LaNora S. Young
Position: Treatment Coordinator
LaNora has been in the dental field for approximately 9 years. She started off her relationship with Dr. Maya Adkins as a patient 10 years ago. She enjoys making patients feel comfortable and at ease, and when she's not caring for the welfare of MAIDSTONE DENTAL's patients, she enjoys the company of her family, laughing and meeting new people.

Stephanie Young
Position: Treatment Coordinator
Stefanie had been in the dental field for a year when she start working as a volunteer at MAIDSTONE DENTAL. She found the best part of working with patients is sharing their joy when the doctor has fixed their smiles, and seeing them glow with self confidence. Outside of work, Stefanie likes to spend time with her family outdoors, playing sports, and hunting and fishing.

Aleshia Bathurst
Position: Dental Hygenist
Aleshia has a B.A. in Dental Hygiene from Old Dominion University and 11 years of dental field experience. She started as a dental assistant, where she found her interest in gumcare. Aleshia enjoys teaching patients that healthy gums can play a major role in a healthy body and ultimately a healthy life. She is married to her highschool sweetheart and has two beautiful girls.

Lisa Matykowski
Position: Dental Hygienist
Lisa has a B.S. in Dental Hygiene from Virginia Commonwealth University and over 11 years experience as a hygienist. She's been a nurse since 1994 and finds that the two careers compliment each other. Lisa understands the major role oral health plays in your overall health an enjoys teaching her patients aspects of both. She is married to the love of her life and they share six wonderful children.
